THE ORIGINS OF STUDIO&.

Studio& was inspired by the vision of Helen Cleugh and John Butcher, parents who saw a need for a safe and inclusive space where young adults (who identify as being neurodivergent) could explore their creativity, develop their artistic skills and connect with other people their age.

The inspiration came from their lived experience with their son Jeff, who identified the need for a safe place for young creatives to connect and support their interests and talents. Realising this need for a space where Jeff and others like him could feel accepted and thrive, Helen and John generously provided the initial funding to make this vision a reality.

Thank you, Helen and John, for being regular everyday parents who saw a need and took action to make a difference.

One of our founders, John Butcher, had an interview with ArtSound, explaining the motivation behind Studio& and how we have created the program that it is today.
You can read about our program in this fantastic story written by the ABC - "Inside the inclusive Canberra art studio helping neurodivergent people 'find their tribe"
